Old and leaking camper roof?

i recently received a 1965 Trailblazer camper that i will be restoring and i have a question about the old roof, it has some leaks and there is quite a buildup of old sealers already on it that are cracking and peeling. how would i go about getting the old ones off so i can get a good seal on it?
